In this kit you can make an elegant ‘Hastings Mackerel’ which can be turned into a brooch, a necklace, sew-on patch or a hanging decoration. It is embroidered in 3 Metalwork techniques over 2 layers of craft felt for a raised effect.
In warm spells of weather massive shoals of Mackerel can be found in Hastings (where I live on the south east coast of U.K) and this inspired me to make one as a kit! I especially love the unique pattern that each fish has giving it an individual personality. Your own pattern can be created in this kit using a combination of the stitches shown.
The Mackerel is stitched with silver plated and black metal threads, over a shimmery silk/metal organza in a variety of stitches including Couching, Or Nue (couching with a colour) and Cutwork, all traditional skills in this beautiful style of embroidery. The design has the addition of a metallic leather head and fin for maximum shine!
Once the embroidery is complete it can be cut out and backed with a pre cut metallic silver ply wood, for jewellery or a decoration.
Clear illustrated instructions will guide you through this hand embroidery project.
The finished Mackerel embroidery measures approximately 8x2cm.
Suitable for all levels of ability, but not advisable for children.
All the kits are designed by Becky Hogg Embroidery and produced in Hastings U.K.
