The NEW kit from Becky Hogg Embroidery celebrates the technique of metal thread work. With a combination of silk covered purls and fine metal wire threads, the Jay embroidery captures this beautiful bird with its peachy copper and electric blue plumage.
Jay’s are shy birds but you can often get a fleeting glance in woodland as they forage for acorns in the Autumn.
The threads in Metal work embroidery are held on the surface of the fabric by a sewing thread, and depending on the type of metal it is either stitched over or through, like a bead. The application and finish of each thread creates a different texture to suit the style of the design whether it be smooth and shiny or layered and sculptural.
Learn how to work with a variety of metal threads and master stitches including couching passing with colour (Or Nue), basketweave cutwork, applying silk covered plate and cutwork S’ing. Once finished, your Jay is surrounded with 2 wooden autumnal oak leaves and mounted in the hoop (optional).
Clear illustrated step by step instructions will guide you through this hand embroidery project.
