Becky Hogg is an embroiderer who trained in multi media textiles
at Loughborough
Art college before going on on to explore traditional hand
embroidery at the Royal School of Needlework.
Learning such ancient
embroidery skills such as goldwork, silk shading and whitework gave valuable
grounding
and inspiration for the future.
Becky worked in the studios of
the RSN for 9 years on various commissions including conservation projects,
a new set of curtains for the Royal opera house and project managing the
commonwealth banner for the Queen's jubilee.
Becky now works freelance from her south
east London studio, dividing her time between client work and teaching (RSN and Bucks University). Her current work combines hand embroidery with sketch
like patterns crafted on the sewing machine. She is also developing
a collaborative print/embroidery project.
Her book 'Blackwork Essential Stitch Guide' will be published by Search Press in October.
Becky's work captures the
essence of a beautifully crafted object made with creative combinations
of
fabric and threads.
